Full circle...What image comes to your mind every time you hear the words "I have a dream"? Besides picturing the iconic and charismatic Martin Luther King, do you also see an image of a screen? A projector? Bullet points? Yep, me neither. When Socrates engaged in deep dialogues with his pupiles and students, the only visual help he probably used was a stick to draw things on the dirt by their feet. What's common among the renowned speakers in history? The were storytellers, and they were good at it. Being good at the art of telling stories means to connect their audience with it and with them. They made them want to hear the next phrase otherwise their lives will crumble in front of them.
Now, what does that has to do with that X-Ray on the right and those funny little pictures in white frames? Well, that's how it all started. My two dentist parents needed help preparing their materials to present their cases during the anual conference of dentist celebrated either at home or overseas. Driven by curiosity (not dentistry, I swear!) I became good with cameras and came in handy when they needed to take pictures of their patients open mouths.
Both of them were very good presenters, but my father had an edge that would put him in a different league: he was a story teller. He was also a gentle soul who felt the importance of all human beings around him ... to be continued |
